The Coach house is a stones throw from some of the best mountain bike centers in the UK sitting in the geographical centre of the seven stanes. Mabie, Ae and Dalbeattie forests are all within twenty minutes drive, while Glentrool, Kirroughtree, Newcastleton and Innerleithen/Glentress are easy day trips from Dumfries, travelling through the stunning scenery of Scotland's southwest and borders.
Known as the “Queen of the South”, Dumfries has excellent shopping/leisure facilities and plenty of pubs and restaurants. The historic tower of the old windmill, now the museum can be easily picked out from the town centre acting as a distinctive landmark to guide you back from your evening out or trip to sample the local amenities. Dumfries offers first class leisure facilities including the brand new £17m leisure pool/fitness centre; the recently built ice bowl; tennis; golf and cycle routes along the banks of the river Nith. In the immediate vicinity Mabie forest and Mabie farm park provide the ultimate fun filled family day out or the perfect location to walk in the forest filling your lungs with clean fresh pine scented air and your senses with the sound of bird song and forest streams. Alternatively take the Galloway coastal road and discover the delights of charming villages such as New Abbey, Kippford and the world renowned artist town of Kirkcudbright.
Directly across the road from the coach house sits the Dumfries museum and famous camera obscura, one of only three in the UK. The museum gardens provide beautiful panoramic views across the town and the museum a fascinating insight into the town's rich history. An energetic and fun filled children's activity program is run throughout the school holidays. Gracefield arts centre is a must for the culture vultures not to mention a visit to the burns heritage centre and cinema sitting two minutes away on the banks of the Nith. |
